Blog: P2P

File sharing is the ability to share files from one computer to another over the internet. It is extremely convenient and useful for the general users and corporations as well. It can be done in a number of ways. For example, manual sharing utilizing removable media, centralized servers on computer networks, the internet, and P2P networks.

P2P sharing is short for peer to peer. It refers to computer networks that use a "distributed architecture." This means that all devices that are connected to this same network will share the workloads. This meant that each "peer" in the network is equal to the other "peers" and that there is no centralized owner of the network. The primary advantage of P2P sharing is for all "peers" to work together to deliver a specific service or perform a particular task.

In "Content Producers Should take Advantage of P2P, Not Fear it" NMA Staff talks about why producers should stop preventing users to pirate their materials but instead start encouraging them to appreciate their work. Regardless of what producers have done over the years to prevent pirating and torrent sharing, results have been minimal. P2P giants like PirateBay are still operating and the hundreds of thousands of daily users have not been punished by law. The article suggests that preventing P2P sharing is only a short and medium term effort but it will not have longlasting effects. Instead, content producers can initiate a donation system where people may donate whatever amount to view or download these medias. Some other examples of P2P file sharing are BitTorrent for movies, video games, music, and media files, Tribler for file sharing, and much more for various purposes.

Blog: Wiki So Far

Unfortunately, I have not added any new contents to a wiki page yet. However, I have been looking at other students contributions to other wikis and have seen the amazing results to some of those pages. Some of them caught my attention and one on gaming particularly. I intend to focus my topic on new media and video gaming. I will be focusing on how new media and technology have shifted the way we play and watch video games. I will be looking up statistics on revenue and user growth as well as the number of live video game streamers and viewers. I will be adding ideas about how electronic gaming has changed the way people view gamers and why it is treated as a competitive sport now. I intend to incorporate parts of my term paper into the wiki to talk about gaming blockchain technology and how it has created opportunities to gaming and streaming companies.

Blog: Social networking sites

There are hundreds of social networking sites on the web. All of these sites serve its own purpose and have its own unique features. Today I will be comparing Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Soundcloud. Facebook is the most popular and has the highest monthly active user count with over 1.6 billion active users in its social network. Facebook allows its users to create profiles, upload pictures, and videos, send messages, update statuses and stay connected with friends and families. I have a very positive impression of Facebook since it is my major source of digital communication. Over 90% of my texting is done via Facebook Messenger and the other 10% via Groupme and text. Facebook is a very user-friendly and useful platform. Users may use Facebook to plan events, spread awareness through advertisements, live stream events, and keep up with news happening around the world.  Twitter is another popular social media platform that many people would use. It has over 650 million...

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual Worlds are where users can create, connect, and chat with others from around the world using voice and online interactions. In most Virtual Worlds memberships are free, but players use real money to exchange for virtual currencies, used to buy digital products. In "No Budget, No Boundaries: It's the Real You" Ruth La Ferla states that roughly 250,000 items are created daily by residents using a built-in modelling tool to construct 3-D objects to sell in the virtual marketplace such as the one in Second Life. These items include shoes, coats, furniture, and possibly anything you would normally buy from Amazon.Virtual Worlds have encouraged many users to become more creative. For example, Jonty Glaser, a partner in Stiletto Moody, a Second Life shoe brand have become a super successful entrepreneur through this Virtual Reality World. He has sold more than $1 million dollars since 2007 and has earned the nickname the "Jimmy Choo of Second Life." According t...
