Creativity and New Media

For this creativity assignment, I have created an avatar on Second Life. After completing the basic tutorial on how to walk, change viewing angle, fly, communicate, and other basic functions I continued to explore the Second Life World. I saw some new players as well so I progressed to greet them and start a conversation. However, there were only Spanish speaking players at the moment. After having no luck with starting a conversation I continued to explore the different buildings found in Second Life. I learned that there is an in-game currency called "LS" and that credit allows you to purchase various items in-game. After purchasing a different hair color and style I progressed further into the game. I went into a building where I saw various artworks, screenshots, software codes that were uploaded by different Second Life Users.

After playing Second Life for a while I realized that new media can not only boost creativity but have practical usages as well. Second Life players were able to upload various forms of files into the game and share it with the rest of the "world" to see. This not only boosts creativity but allows for players to be informed. For example, some players were able to upload youtube videos into the game. Instead of viewing it on youtube, I was able to view youtube in-game. This allows for more publicity and easier marketing for free.

Blog: Next New

I would create a new media platform that is designated for college students only. The platform would require a valid student email and identification card to create an account. The platform would be a mixture of Facebook, LinkedIn, and Tinder. It would provide college students to network, hang out, and mingle. The platform would allow students from different colleges/ university to interact with one another and share their ideas on college majors, classes, career goals, and job opportunities. Aside from professional usage, it would also allow the users to upload personal pictures, videos, and messages. Other users may view these content and choose to connect with you. There will also be an option for users to select whether or not other individuals who are seeking a date can find you based on your interests, location, school, major, and other characteristics. This platform would provide college students unlimited access to a network with peers like themselves from other schools. Not on

Blog: Wiki So Far

Unfortunately, I have not added any new contents to a wiki page yet. However, I have been looking at other students contributions to other wikis and have seen the amazing results to some of those pages. Some of them caught my attention and one on gaming particularly. I intend to focus my topic on new media and video gaming. I will be focusing on how new media and technology have shifted the way we play and watch video games. I will be looking up statistics on revenue and user growth as well as the number of live video game streamers and viewers. I will be adding ideas about how electronic gaming has changed the way people view gamers and why it is treated as a competitive sport now. I intend to incorporate parts of my term paper into the wiki to talk about gaming blockchain technology and how it has created opportunities to gaming and streaming companies.

Blog Social networking

Using blogs and other sources of social media can be beneficial to many companies. For example, in "Antisocial Networking" Hilary Stout emphasizes the issue of face to face interactions nowadays due to new technologies. Prior to the internet and the rise of new technologies, kids used to spend hours on the phone and hanging out in the neighborhood. But now even chatting on the phone and emailing is too "passé." Researchers who study relationships have discovered that close childhood friendships help build trust in people outside of their family and lay the foundation to developing healthy relationships with their coworkers, friends, girlfriend, in the future. Oftentimes shy kids do not develop this sense of "trust" in other people outside their family and become outcast later in life. Researchers believe that the impersonal nature of texting and online communications may make it easier for shy kids to connect with others. According to the article, Mr. Wil
